  10.          Welcome to Collector Mate!     Collector Mate is an extremely
  11.      friendly and powerful database for collectors.     Collector Mate
  12.      is perfect for those who collect Baseball Cards, Stamps, Coins,
  13.      Porcelain, or any other collectibles. The number of categories
  14.      you keep are limited only by the amount of space on your hard drive.
  15.      Pertinent online help is available from every screen via the F1 key.
  16.      Ease of use, attractive screens, and useful reports make this the
  17.      Serious Collectors dream!

  19.          Future enhancements may include trading of information by
  20.      modem and custom report writing capabilities.     And if good
  21.      suggestions are received who knows what else??

  23.          Print this ascii file for a brief but helpful users guide.

  25.          Please be advised that CollectorMate requires your system to be
  26.      configured with at least (30) thirty files set in the CONFIG.SYS
  27.      file of your root directory.  If this is not the case, we
  28.      recommend using your DOS editor or some other editor to modify the
  29.      CONFIG.SYS file to include the following line:

  39.          There are three basic screen types in Collector Mate.  They
  40.      are Menus, Tables, and Forms.    A description of each follows ...

  42.                       Menus
  43.  
  44.         'Point and Shoot' technology is used throughout Collector Mate.
  45.      All menu selections are activated by hilighting the desired choice
  46.      with the cursor keys or by pressing the first letter of the desired
  47.      field.     Once the proper choice is selected press Enter.  By pressing
  48.      the Esc (Escape) key from any menu, you may back up to the previous
  49.      menu, or if on the main menu, exit to DOS.

  52.                      Tables
  53.  
  54.          Tables are used to view records in a file.     To search a record
  55.      out from a table use the Cursor keys, PgUp, PgDn, Home, and End keys.
  56.      You will find the function of each key to be straight forward. Another
  57.      way to locate a record is by using the search field located at the
  58.      top left of each table.  If the table is in item name order, for
  59.      example, as you enter the item name you will notice the hilighter
  60.      bar moving closer and closer to the match.  For instance, if you are
  61.      searching for Johnny Bench, as soon as the 'J' is entered, the
  62.      hilighter bar will have moved to the top of the J 's in the table.

  64.          Once the proper record is hilighted press Del to delete it or
  65.      Enter to modify the record.  At any place in the table you may press
  66.      Insert to add a new record.  Many of the tables have the Auto Insert
  67.      option which prevents you from having to press the Insert key after
  68.      each addition.     This may be helpful if you are adding many items
  69.      in a row from a list.    To go into auto insert press Ctrl+I.  If
  70.      you own duplicates you may copy an existing item by hilighting the
  71.      item to be copied and pressing Ctrl+C.     The item will be brought up
  72.      for modification and then added after you complete any changes if any.

  75.                      Forms
  76.  
  77.          Forms are screens in which data regarding an Item is filled out.
  78.      The Enter key will advance you through the fields, while the escape
  79.      key will back you to the previous field.  The Up and Down cursor keys
  80.      act as the Escape and Enter keys respectively.     When on a field where
  81.      the choices are provided in a menu fashion, the Left and Right cursor
  82.      keys will move you to the selection of your choice at which point
  83.      pressing Enter will accept the hilighted choice.  The menu selection
  84.      may also be hilighted by pressing the first letter of the choice you
  85.      want.    Try the Condition field from the item update screen for an
  86.      example.

  92.                   Terms and Uses

  94.            The following list of terms and techniques will help you get
  95.      going fast with Collector Mate.
  96.  
  97.      CATEGORY:
  98.            A category is an area defined by the user for storage of
  99.      records.  An example would be Cincinnati Reds - 1990. Within
  100.      a category there are fields which may be configured such as whether
  101.      to use a retirement date as well as an introduction date; Whether to
  102.      use a high and low market value; Whether to include a field for
  103.      a number.  Also there is a place for a generic field if you wish.
  104.      This could be something like 'Status' for baseball cards.  Entries
  105.      such as 'Rookie', 'Damaged', 'Error', or 'Rare' could be entered
  106.      for each card under status.  Reports could then be generated
  107.      filtering out a specific match on the field.  All 'Rookie' cards from
  108.      the category Cincinnati Reds - 1990 could be reported by using the
  109.      generic match report.

  112.      ITEM:
  113.         An Item is a single element from a given category such as
  114.      a baseball card from Cincinnati Reds - 1990, or a stamp from a
  115.      category called WWII stamps - American, for example.
  116.

  118.      CATEGORY SELECTION:
  119.         This is an option off the main menu which will allow you
  120.      to change to a different category.  Simply press Enter once you
  121.      have hilighted the menu option 'Category Selection' and all the
  122.      possible choices will show up.     Now hilight the proper choice in
  123.      the table and press Enter.  You have now changed to a different
  124.      category.

  126.         To add new categories go to the menu selection 'Category
  127.      Update' and press Enter.  From here use the techniques defined above
  128.      under 'Tables.'

  130.          Remember the F1 key will help you through the system as you learn!

  148.      be the name used at the top of reports.
